Right now, about 30 seconds ago, I just saw my male mate with my female platy for the first time in the 3 weeks I've had them. For some reason up to this point he has shown little or no interest in her. (Maybe they wanted to wait, like good Christian fish: I think I saw the discus performing a marriage ceremony the other day  ) I saw him swim up alongside her, really fast... saw the gonopodium curl over... saw the little flash of white that meant the sperm being transferred... Now I don't know if he actually succeeded in inseminating her, but i really hope so. I will be watching her carefully for the next few weeks. Hopefully I will be seeing some big changes happening. OMG I'm so excited and I don't know why: it's not like I haven't bred livebearers before. :p It shoudl take about a month right?

PS It was purely coincidental... I just walked past my tank and glanced over, and saw it happen! I'm so lucky as I doubt many has actually seen this happen... if you have please say so.

Ok but did you actually see the insemination in process or just the courtship that everyone sees (the male desperately trying to catch up to the female and transfer his sperm)

??? I can't figure out if you are messing around or being rude? Either way it's inseminate... and you're sick. Who the heck would want to screw a fish? Unless you're into that kind of thing, or just getting desperate, which may be the case with you. :p

haha i was just trying to be funny but it sounded kinda rude haha, yeah but i really wouldnt wanna see my fish do that

I didn't see it on purpose, I kinda just glanced over and they were doing it. :*) Anyway, it's perfectly natural and it's not like they care. I seriously doubt fish can get embarassed (except of course blushing angels) :p

Thanks crystal I hope to see lots of cute little fry swimming around soon. Ok i gotts remember this... fertilization occurred at about 8 pm on tuesday, september 1... so fry should start being born towards the end of the month, right?
