For i think the 5th time my pair of firemouths laid some eggs again so I just thought same as usual...they'll be eaten in the night.

But they lasted the night and then another 2 nights and during the day today they have all hatched and there's hundred of litle wigglers under the rock the eggs were on.

I'm considering taking the majority of the babies out when they become free swimming and put them in a seperate tank to raise them in.

There both doing a great job at the moment, but once there free swimming I'm sure the pim pictus will get in there.

any suggestions?

the firemouths are excellent parents and i can guarantee that no fish will get hold of them. i have 2 angel fish in my tank which are virocious eaters and have yet to be able to get at my fry which are now 7 days old and going strong

I can believe that now!

Today when i got home i got a shock....they had all gone!

until i looked where the parents were and they had moved all the babies 3ft across the tank!.

under a bundle of java moss!

congrats on the babies, hope they make it :)

Hi there,

I've just seperated over 100 juveniles from my adult pair. The only reason for doing this is that the parents now have another batch of fry (probably 5 or 6 days old now) and the adults had started to herd the first batch of juveniles into 1 corner of the tank.

The adults have 2 or 3 places in the tank were they tend to corale the fry (36" x 18" footprint on their tank with no other fish).

I think your pims will have a feast as the fry get older and start to explore the tank (regardless of the parents protection).

The juveniles are about 20mm SL just now and probably spent the last 6 or 8 weeks with the parents. Until this last batch of fry turned up I had no plans on splitting the adults and juveniles, in fact there are still about 6 juveniles in the adult tank with no agro (I'm not stripping the tank to catch these last few stragglers!!).

If anyone is interested in buying some of these juveniles :)

Firemouth juveniles for sale (Staffs, UK)

Regards

Andrew
