Poor starving Chops!! Yeah right! my eye he is starving. Yesterday he had:
Breakfast 6 Spirulina sticks & 6 sinking pellets
Lunch: Tetra Prima
Tea: 4 peas
Late evening snack 4 bloodworm pellets (this was about 11pm)

3am I was woken by a thump...thump noise, then I was aware of Kes, my dog in the room crying quietly, this I was worried about as she never comes into my room at night. The thumping noise was not the dog it was comming from downstairs. I crept downstairs (bravely behind the dog) and switched on the hallway light and went to check the back door, locked and secure all the other fish were fast asleep apart from Mr Whiskars & the pictus. I heard the thump again. Kes had gone into the kitchen and I found her sat in front of Chop's tank. The little devil was wide awake and jumping at the feeding flap!!! :grr:

Maybe I shouldnt keep calling him my little baby

He is so jealous, I was cleaning out the ba tank last night, he was not happy I was paying attention to another tank (glad he hasnt seen the front room yet  ) he kept batting the lid the whole time I was doing the wc!

Set my watch by this fish, its 1 o'clock he is under the feed flap shaking the plastic plant then swimming to where I can see him eyes rolling skywards, what a surprise Chops is hungry AGAIN!!!!

After spending time this evening doing a wc on the 400l tank next to Chops's tank and ingnoring the constant thump thump of him desperately trying to get my attention by rattling the now sticky taped down feeding flap. He has discovered a new trick! his internal filter has a small pipe by the outlet where you can attatch some airline to increase air into the tank. I havnt bothered with this as its just Chops and its agitating the surface, so this little pipe is just under the water. He has now sussed that if he lifts his head up so his nose comes out of the water and turns quickly he creates a wave next to the filter which makes the pipe come out of the water for a second giving a great slurping sound as the air rushes through the wide pipe. Satisfied at watching me nearly fall off the chair because it made me jump the first time, he continued this new trick the entire hour I was cleaning the other tank! Since I finished and put the tank back together and sat down at the pc he hasnt bothered to make the filter slurp again :grr:

I've never met Chops, but I love him!

Oscars are really quite brainy for fish, aren't they?

I was discussing clicker training for dogs with my mum the other day, and I'm going to have a go and see if I can teach my Oscar, Gormok, to do a trick or two. I'll be using a flash of light from a torch instead of the clicker as I don't know if he'd hear it.

Might be worth trying with Chops as he's doing so well teaching himself!

I am sure they would hear a clicker, if Chops is under the filter and I am at the pc out of sight and I rattle the food tub he comes fast enough!. I also have a common plec who will come when he is called and have his head stroked and his belly tickled.
