Yahooo I'm a grandparent

no i think whole dry shrimp and flakes would be to hard for the lil guys to eat. the mushed stuff will be easier on them.

:) CONGRATULATIONS! Good luck with the fry! I feed my newborn fry a special powder called 'First Bites" then switch over to crushed flakes and bloodworms.

 I love balloon mollies! I recently lost my beloved 6 month old balloon molly and she had such a wonderful personality. Once I bought a VERY pregnant female balloon molly and she started delivering the fry in the bag! I guess her fry couldn't wait to see their new tank! :hyper:

On last proper count I have 30 live fry, 4 still born and about 4 eggs but I know some eggs went close to the holes in the hatchery and got picked out by the others. She could have had a few in the actual community which will have got picked over by the other fish.
Had a slight accident when putting mum back in the hatchery, one of the guppy females got into the hatchery and probably picked over a few of the fry. She didn't have time to pick off too many though because I shooed her out of there almost as soon as she got in. One of the fry managed to escape the hatchery and before I could scoot it back in it got eaten by one of my gouramis. :grr:
Never mind the remainder look healthy and one of my friends has given me something called liquifry which is a liquied food for the babies, they seem to love this.
I seem to remember reading your post Sasha about your 6 month old balloon molly. Sorry to hear about your loss there.

have u fed them their first meal! im sry to hear that a few got eaten but it happens all the time. hows the female and her remaining babys!

o ya, wheres my pictures! lol :D

Yes I have fed them their first meal. I tried what you said GuppyDude but I couldn't mix a really good past so I gave up.
I was given the liquifry from a friend. This is a really thick paste food which comes in a dropper bottle. They seem to like this so I will probably keep them on this for a while.
Not so many of them would have been eaten if I had been more careful or just left the mom in the hatchery for a while. I am unable to count them all as they are moving around much more tonight and some that I thought had no chance have vanished off the bottom of the hatchery so I assume they are swimming around with the others.
Shame i don't know what breed of molly the male was. The mother is a lyretail balloon molly but all the fry appear to have normal shape tails. (not that I mind).
The mom is doing fine, she is now settled into the community. My betta and all the other community fish are still trying to find a way into the hatchery, they have no chance, I have put an old stocking around the gaps, the fry are getting plenty of water etc but their tails cannot be nipped by any of the adults in the tank. I also have a really small one, this seems to be the most active but it can get through the hatchery holes.
GuppyDude, at the moment I am still unable to get a pic worth posting of the guppies. They won't stay still and my camera is rubbish.

my cam is a peice of **** to dont worry about it. how the new arrivals doin? has the mother had n e more since? keep me updated! :fun:

The new arrivals are doing great and have been feeding. The mom is doing fine and as far as I know she has not had any more, if she has nature has taking it cause and the others have eaten any new arrivals as the mom is back in the main community tank.
I have managed to remove the still born fry and most of the eggs, still need to remove a couple of dead eggs though.
Will try and get you some pics of the guppies eventually guppy dude.
