Wth Is Going On?

Yeah it's heated. I'd never personally put a betta into an unheated tank.
It has a 25w heater that actually came with a 10gal tank. It's a small compact model so it's perfect for such a small tank.

I am very sorry about your fish.

My betta recovered from dropsy, I started treating him on day 1 (was lucky to catch it in time) and gave him both Maracyn and Maracyn-two for 5 days. He started feeling/looking better in 48 hours. I only had him for 2 weeks at that point and he's been with me for almost 2 years now.

I just want others to know that if it is caught and treated early enough, the fish can make a full recovery.

This was the article I used for the diagnosis and what meds to treat him: http://www.healthybetta.com/fish-dropsy

i really dont think it has anything to do with the supplier, food , water supply or whatever, i would get rid of the tank, even with intense cleaning you can still leave unknowingly some bacteria in the tank that will lay dormant and wait for its next victim, thats what i would suggest anyone to do after repeated deaths from dropsy, the bacteria will stay dormant until the fishes immune system drops slightly and them BAM it attacks it can stay dormant for any period of time with a betta that has a high/strong immune system with could be months if not years.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid is going on with this tank. It just seems like too much of a coincidence for 3 out of 4 bettas that have been in this tank to have developed dropsy. I've already suggested to fiance that we should just throw this one out and get a new one.

i would throw it out and get a new tank,,ever put chemicals in the tank for fungus and realize the water turns green,??? then realize not matter how many times you scrub the tank out the silicone goop on the sides is now forever green?? i think it is just porouse enougth to hold stuff in it and maby bacteria can hide out in the silicone?? just a guess...

There isn't any of that silicone glue stuff in the tank. It's a plastic seemless hex tank. It's old though and pretty scratched up so who knows if something could still be in it.

It's still setup for now though just for the plants in it. Whenever we move... it's definitely going out of service and hopefully we'll get another to replace it.
