Wt Do Red Tail Sharks Eat?

Mostley agree with bignose, but skip the lettuce not alot of nutrition vs amount eaten cucumber are zuchuni are good, also if the is something you could do to encourage hair grass and the like they love it well all my RTBS and my flying fox do

In the wild (sadly, not too many left), these fish are almost exclusively herbivorious. I don't own any, but I would be giving them a diet of algae wafers and vegetables like cucumbers and lettuce.

how do u feed them cucumber put it on a stik?

Mine loves the cucmber I put in for my plecs, but I have to weigh it down cos one of my plecs seems to like the skin more than the inside. If you don't have a plec you will only need a small slice of cucumber for the shark. How big is he?

EDIT: You wil have to take it out after a while as it breaks down quickly cos it is soft

he is only about 2" at the mo

In that case, I would just cut a round slice off the cucumber. Some people weigh it down by tying it to a rock with an elastic band. You might be able to push it into the gravel - never tried cos my plecs really go for it so it would soon float back up. YOu can try a plant weight or you can get veggie clips from your LFS. At the moment, cos I put in about a 4 inch slice, I stick a stainless steel dinner knife in it!

The shark will only nibble at it, yours is about the same size as mine - cute aren't they? My mollies and my ram seem to like it too but they won't eat nearly as much as a plec would. Just leave it in for a few hours and see how many eat it. When it starts to go fluffy or they have their fill, whip it out. :good:

thnx

lol fish liking cucumber, wot next

O yes they r cute!!

I know! My fish eat more veggies than me! LOl! My plecs like cucumber, courgette, carrot and sweet potato!!

My plec (Louie) is really greedy though, so the shark (Wee-man) either has to get there quick or go in when Louie isn't watching! LOL!!

Think I might get some shrimp pellets for Wee-man and see what he makes of those.
