Wow, I Have Really High Ph

I didn't realize my pH would be so high. I usually just test for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite only especially since I finally got this new 55 gallon tank started. But yesterday, I decided to do the whole set of tests.

How does this bode for my inhabitants, should I start trying to drop the pH or leave them be? Do I add peat?

Just 3 days ago, I got the four cories. They seem really happy and active and swim up and down all the time, except one afternoon where one stayed in the corner. Is this normal behaviour for cories? I've never had any before. Otherwise, all the other fish have been with me for 1-2 years and took the transfer from the old tank a month ago very well.

8.0 is a little high, but it shouldn't put you off keeping fish. I'm willing to bet that your GH and KH are high too. THis is good news if you plan to keep fish that prefer those conditions, like african cichlids.

I wouldn't worry about your pH too much though as fish can adapt.

It looks from the picture to be around 7.8 -8.0 PH. Which isn't very high. What fish do you have in the tank? You mention corys, and as far as I know they can easily handle PH between 6.5 - 8.0, so I wouldn't worry about it.

It's in my sig... 8 rummynose tetras, 3 pearl gouramis, 5 angelicus loaches, 1 bristlenose pleco, 3 cories (still need to identify exact species).

Besides the cories, I've had the rest of the fish for 1 to 2 years. I'm not going to stop keeping fish! I just never realized my pH was that high... I mean I had to go to the high card, so I thought it was high.
