And besides the above statements about my modified marineland filter, the biowheel has lots of BB on it as well and I never clean that. Also remember that I have a sponge filter running constantly in the tank as well. The floss is totally filled with black thick gunk . You wouldn't want to reuse it. Using the floss keeps the tank crystal clear. .
Hint: when cutting the floss to fit the plastic backing, make it about a half inch higher at the top. That will help make the biowheel keep spinning. Reviews about the filter stated that the biowheel would stop turning after a few months . My fix solves that issue.
