If i were to fill a new 5g tank with cycled water from another tank would it be fully cycled?

probably not no. Not much of the good bacteria is in the water, it is mostly in the filter. If you have a mature tank you could take some of the filter media from that tank and put in the filter of the new tank.

If you would plant your tank heavily, you will not experience the effects of a cycle in your tank.

plants will not instantly cycle your tank, they only remove nitrAte, NOT ammonia or nitrIte

anyway back to the origonal question. water carrys very little of the filter bacteria, the filter (media) does that job, hence the nick name "filter bacteria". So moving some media from your mature tank will do the trick, but water will do very little (or nothing)

Plants will take ammonia in precerence to nitrite, and nitrite in preference to nitrate. They will easliy reduce the effects of a cycle in a heavily planted tank, so long as only a few fish are added to start. Say 1 inch of fish per 20gals :good:

All the best

but the answer to the question is still NO, even planted tanks need cycling to start with. I understand your comments, but should new keeprs not learn to walk before they try to run?
