Would This 'count' As Filter Media?

My tank

has this bit of sponge over the filter intake. For the purposes of seeding a new tank, would this contain bacteria do you think?
I want to start a cycle on my new hexagon after July hols, by which time, my bowl had better be well cycled and be able to spare a bit of media!

anything that gets water filtered through is classed as media, even if it is a brick lol.

Yes, that's the heater too bagu-all the 'gubbins' are in the lid. It does look great-even better when I finally get some blooming fish in it!
