im getting a 55 gallon and im going to heavily plant it and was wondering if these fish would be ok.

4-5 angelfish
3 clown loaches
1 pleco
1-3 red tail shark
15-20 tetra
1-2 medium to large chichlid of some type any suggetions?
maybe 2-3 bala sharks temporary, i can give them back to pet store when they get to big

or an all chichlid tank suggestions?

does that sound okay any suggestions welcome along with other fish suggetions

plese post pictures!

p.s.
how many bags of play sand do i need to cover the bottom 1 1/2 "

I’m no expert but as no one has answered your questions ill put my two pence in.

Angelfish would be fine.

Clown loaches will get to big for your tank, they require a mature tank (+6 months) and are susceptible to disease.

If you want a RTB shark only get one, even one might bully the rest of your tank especially bottom dwellers (like clowns).

Tetra, depending on which one you get I would say 15max.

Personally I don’t see the point of getting the Bala Sharks knowing your having to get rid of them at some point the need to be in larger groups anyway.

There aren’t many chichlids that make good community fish.

If your new to the fish game I suggest you read up on the “inch per gallon” rule of thumb, it’s a good starting point.

angelfish tend to eat tetras, i wouldn't put them both in the same tank.

i wouldn't bother with the sharks either, i agree with piper on that one.

is there any one fish you have your heart set on? maybe it would be easier to work outwards from that for us.

thanks!

Angelfish would be ok, the bala shraks and clown loaches are a huge no, balas need a tank more then double that size, atleast 120 gallons, clowns need a tank of atleast 75 gallons, plus they need to be in groups of 3 or more. Tetras would be fine, I would say 10-15, and and I would gets 1 RTS or one will become the ruler of the tank and kill the rest. As for a cichlid, anything over a dwarf will kill the tetras and eat them, and besides angelfish are cichlids. Also angelfish-tetra tanks have worked, just need to get mature tetras, and young angels.

well i really want the few angelfish, the rtbs, and the clowns. i should have a 125g within 3 years and i know the fish wont grow to be full size that quick so thats not a problem. but id really like the fish i first stated at the top but if it just wont work i wont do it.

Discus are hard.
Plus the only tank mates you could have are tetras and catfish.
You could fiut 6 in a 55G tank with nothing else except a catfish.

And you shouldn't buy fish thinking you'll be getting a larger tank soon.
Ask alot of us - we know it doesn't always work that way..

Very good point, things come up. Just get what is good for your tank, clowns will be there when you get your bigger tank.

5 angelfish
3-4 clown loaches
1 pleco
1 red tail shark
15 tetra which ones?
some cory catfish? dont know much about them though

ok thats most likely what ill get, ok?

I think the 5 angel fish are alittle too much. Maybe 3? That seems even alittle bit stuffy...
55G isn't that big. I use to think it was, but its not really.

I don't see a problem in starting off with extra Angelfish (6 or so) and then eventually there's a good chance of ending up with two pairs, which will work fine in this size of tank.

For tetra's you need to stay away from anything too small (neons) and anything to nippy (serpae). Otherwise you've got a pretty extensive list of choices that will work.

1-2 medium to large chichlid of some type any suggetions
That won't work out well since you've already got a well stocked tank that includes a bunch of cichlids (Angels). If you decorate the tank suitably then something small and mild, like Rams, should work out well enough.
