A strange thread I admit but the way Ive placed my corals may mean they touch in the future

a hammer may touch an xenia pulse, would the hammer damage the pulse or vice versa?

a duncan may touch a xenia pulse , would the duncan damage the pulse or vice versa?

Thanks :good:

The hammer more than likely yes, the duncan may but it may not. Xenia wouldnt do any damage, it would lose against either. The duncan would also lose against the hammer.

happy days the duncan and hammer arent near each other its just the pulse has potential to spread and i wondered whether it would damage the hammer and duncan but in a sense they will help control the xenia :good:

Hammers can be right devils to anything within several inches of it! They have sweeping stinger tentacles, you might not see them unless it is actively attacking something but they do have some extra long stingers :)

Dont know about duncans and xenia, no doubt they can cause damage if touching but not likely to go out of their way to 'attack' like the hammerhead will.

Your toadstool can produce some pretty nasty toxins too...

No, not a strange thread. Coral warfare is very a very interesting aspect of the hobby and can potentially wreak havoc on a tank. You can't test for these chemicals.

Actually LPS war is better at least if gives you chance to move corals around. Soft coral war is toxic, as their defence lie in the release of toxins and poisons into the water. In this case not much you can do other then remove the coral.

cheers for the responses, I shall get some carbon in next week or so to try and help with any toxins from the toadstool

I had a hammer before and I couldnt believe how long the hammers stretched to but in the past for me they damaged lobos and trumptes corals that had their own stingers. I just wondered in this instance whether they would go for the pulse which doesnt appear to have a stinger

The Xenia would release a toxin, but the Euphyllia family are bad #16##### corals not much can stand upto them. In some cases they have harassed and forced anemones to move.

It probably would sting xenia in time if it felt it was competing for food..

That's why many people run carbon.
