Hi,

Would a fully grown oscar be able to/try to eat a 3" bala shark?

I have a 5" and a 3" bala shark in my tank that I rescued from a tiny tank last year, now my tanks only 3ft so its now time to find them a permanent 6ft tank, I have a friend that has a 6ft tank but it has 3 fully grown oscars in it and I dont even want to consider puttin the balas in there if they are going to become fish supper lol

A 3 inch bala, quite skinny at this age, i would not try it,, My oscars are 12 and 14inch and looking at them and what they eat, silversides which are around 3inch in size, it would be risky bud

Ok Nelly cheers,

I'll have to try find someone else, Nobody round yorkshire area seems to have a tank big enough lol, I'm even trying to give them away to no avail lol

Andy

I bet they would lol

If I posted mine i'd prob get rid of them pretty easily but the larger bala is getting skittish in the tank so really dont want to stress em out by posting them.

Now see i have only ever posted channa, thats because they have the ability to breath above water,so as long as enough water covers them and more air it feels safe to me, not sure i would post a normal fish,

My dad had some silver dollars, Bala sharks and an Oscar in a tank and the Oscar ate all the sharks. Those Oscars are mean fellas!!

I have four bala sharks and silver dollar in with a pair of oscars, they got alone perfect, the problem arises when something is added that is bite size, remember in the wild these fish eat fish,so if a larger fish is kept with smaller then thats a risk in its self, mine however are all fully grown, if you had the bala's for example at six inches and got a 2inch oscar then you will be fine..

i would say yes i once saw them eat
a goldfish a fancy golf ball size
and also a tyre track eel and
a pair of kribs that a mate had
in his tank
