Worried About My Betta....

Well, he's still hanging in there. He seems a little more active, he's still in the breeder but swimming around in it a little more before settling in the bottom for an extended rest. His pectoral fins still seem to be clamped up into little points. I think I'll leave him in the breeder net (otherwise its a fair hike to the top) and keep changing a bit of his water everyday until I see him perk up some more...:(

Just an update...

I just let him out of the breeder net after changing some more of his water - his pectoral fins are no longer clamped into a point, but fanned again and he was swimming around quite a bit in the net rather than just slumped on the bottom like before. He's still resting a lot now, but he looks a LOT better :D.

Will continue to keep a close eye on. :good:

Oh wow, I didn't know people were still following this topic!

He is nearly back to 100% :D His fins are all spread out, and hes swimming and hovering in the tank, not resting on the bottom anymore at all. Still being a pig as always. The only thing he's NOT doing is flaring at his mirror for me - instead he's kind of shying away from it and hiding - I guess he's just not quite up to 'fighting' yet, but I'm sure he will be feeling confrontational again with a bit more time.

So in summary, all I did was change some water every day, put a bit of salt in, and had him in a breeder net so it was easier for him ot rest and make it to the top. The rest he did on his own :good:. I'm so glad he got better.

But I will definitely be more careful with the Melafix from now on (I'm 99% sure it was the cause) - and a word of warning to you all from this too!

Cheers

Got a flare today! :hyper: He's back to his cantankerous self :D

Ok, I admit it was a bit of a half-assed flare, but it was a flare nonetheless.

Good recovery! :good:

Very glad to hear your little guy is much better. It could've been the overdose of Melafix, but one thing that stuck out to me was that you mentioned that one of the foods you offer is flakes with dried (freeze-dried, I'm assuming) bloodworms in it. Anything freeze-dried tends to constipate bettas... the BioGold pellets are great food... and you can supplement with frozen/thawed bloodworms... much healthier than the freeze-dried for them.

I very very rarely give them the dried bloodworm - the flakes aren't made of bloodworm, but theres fish flakes AND a small amount of bloodworms in the container. Just to clarify. :good:. If they do get it, they usually only get one piece.

Glad to hear he's made such a recovery!
It seems like lots of people are having problems with their bettas. Maybe it's the fluctuating temperatures or something...
