well in a fury :grr: , I had just about had it with the snails, I pulled all the fake and real plants and dumped it all into a bucket of scolding hot water  , just long enought to let the snails drop off like flies.I also did this with a good amount of substrate.

well I guess plants dont like hot water (note to self for future reference) :/

The plants have turned brown now and I think they are starting to deteriate
I do have some younger healthy ones I added during the massacure, should I leave the dying or dead plants as nutriants for the younger health ones? or just pull them, I think the fish are also snacking on them now

at least theres around 500 less snails in there

oh my ! snail genocide ! :) hmm i guess it wont do much good to leave all the dying plants inside the tank... it might cause spikes in your water levels especially with ammonia due to the decaying plant matter, i guess its best to remove a huge chunk of the dying plant matter :)

you know I was thinking of that but I wasnt sure if a dead plant will actually produce ammonia.

so I just tested the water

ammonia 2.0

nitrite 0
nitrate 40

well at least the bacteria is doing a darn good job

I did a 40% change on saturday during the campaign

and it looks like its ging to be a wet and wild time tonight too

I guess the plants have to go

yep its cycled, I've been up and running since may (granted I had lots of issues over the period,

the nitrite was up to 40 when i changed the water, so I presume it went back down to about 20ish (though I didnt test the water after the change)

so in two days if I'm correct the nitrate has probably jumped by about double,

well I changed the water 25% I lost about 7 anacharis plants and two amazon swords, the amazonz were extremely delicate and easily fell appart in my hands. some of the anacharis had already broken apart.

will have to test the water again tommarow and do a water change if neccissary

the good news is 5 anacharis are still ok

thanks for bringing up the ammonia I would never have thought about that
