Having used a WB stove about 10 years ago to heat for several winters, I know that the room temps can get pretty hot at times. I didn't have any fish at that time so don't have any personal experience. Are you using the stove strictly to heat the room or the house? Obviously if it is only to heat the room, you wouldn't ever have it really hot in there. I used mine to heat the entire house (about 1400 sq ft) so when I stoked it good at night before going to bed, I know the temp in that particular room probably got up into the upper 80s or 90s. Water holds temperature very well so short term high heat shouldn't raise the temp on a 55 gallon too much. I would definitely set the tank up as far from the stove as possible though just in case.

Thanks for your help
Yes it is the way we heat (by choice)
and the room does get very warm
i will definetly try to keep it as far away as possible. But the gasses released as well is as concern

Thanks Cheriberry

I don't think the gases would be a problem but I could be wrong. I know we never had a problem as far as any odors or smells in the house as a result of the stove.

Even if it does heat the tank up some, I wouldn't worry as long as angels are the only fish in the tank. I've had them just shy of 100F, thanks to a heater with a screwed up thermostat. The only thing that clued me in was a couple of corys panting like a dog in July. The angels were fine, I've intentionally had them in the low 90's while medicating. Most of my angel tanks are 82-84F. Angels like it a little warm.

I've just installed a WB stove, and they really shouldn't emit any fumes into the room assuming your chimney is OK.
Maybe a little smoke when you open the door of it before it gets going properly, but this really shouldn't harm the fish given the amount involved. I would think that if your room doesn't get smokey, then it can't be emmitting anything else into the room because of the air-flow system in the body of the stove.

I used to have my tank about 10-12 feet from my wood stove and it never caused a big problem with over heating the water. My tank was a 55 gal - the temp pretty much stayed around 83 degrees when the stove was in use.
