I found a large nice shaped branch from a dead tree in the local woods and was wanting to use it in my new tank im setting up, The branch has been dead for a while and has no bark left on it,
Can i use it in the tank or will it be harmfull to my fish?

probably best to boil it first and check what wood it is

Agree with Tom, soak it for around ten minutes in water straight from the kettle then take it outside or wherever and hose it down with cold water. Repeat this process several times and it should almost guarentee to kill/remove all the little things... you know, on wood.

Im unsure on the species of the wood, i know its dead and completely dried out-bark has come off naturally
Unfortunately the best i can do in regards to cleaning the wood is to pressure wash it as its just over 8ft long, ill try and get a picture up if i can

Why not chop it up into smaller manageable pieces which can be boiled? Unless you lan to ut it in an 8ft tank!
