what types of wood can i put in my tank because i want to fill up my cockatoo apisto tank with little sticks>

Bog wood

Monapi wood

Most need a good boiling for a few hours prior to being put in the tank to prevent the tannins leeching into the water.

I'm not sure of any "sticks" you can put in there without them rotting.

oak is another good one, have to make sure you dont just pick it off the tree, my peice is about 2yrs off the tree, beech i here is another good one, people say using dried oak leaves collected in the autum helps to naturally lower the ph as does the oak wood

wont it have started to rot if its 2 years old
and i need to lower the ph coz im getting cichlids so that will help

Oak is hard wood so it wont rot easily at all leaving it 2 years just makes sure there is no sap presant and to make sure the wood is well and truely "dead"

I would think so but are you going to leave it out for 2 years?

There are other ways of lowering Ph.

and i kow there is but i just wanted to add some more wood to the tank to make it look more natrul and as a bonus it will lower the ph

I have no idea were to buy it and i assume it would be more expensive.

I reccomend using some regular bog/vine/monapi wood and using other methods such as adding certain rocks to your water to lower your Ph

You can find some really nice peices, some larger or smaller if you prefer.

Use Bogwood, pour boiling water over and then let it soak in the boil water to kill any bacteria that may be living on it. Then place it in the tank. The tannins that it will release into the tank water will lower the pH and most fish (Tetras, South American Cichlids etc) prefer tannin stained water anyway!

yh i ve got some in all my tanks
ive just got a big center picse for this tank and some coconut caves and then im going to add a few smaller bits
