Witch Filter? Eheim Pro 3 - Fluval Fx5

Hi Help please,

Just need some opinions on which filter is best ?


EHEIM PROFESSIONEL 3 2080 FILTER


OR THE


FLUVAL FX5 CANISTER FILTER

TANK SIZE 700L???

So if you have either of these filters please tell us and we can buy the best one!

i have the FX5 , love it , never look back on my purchase. Personally i think the pro 3 is WELL over priced and i feel that you can spend the money on other things like fish.

FX5 well reccomended.

30 pound diffrence in price.

FX 5 will have better mechanical filtration. Eheim 2080 uses less power, is quieter and has better build quality.

eheim 2080 cycles a tank faster and supports a much larger bioload. Taken from a reviewer: eheim will process 123 PPM of ammonia every 24 hrs, fluval fx5 will process 37 PPM of ammonia.

Maybe the easist thing is to have them taken out of the boxes in the store and make a personal desision which one is more ergonomic and easier to use since at 700 litres either should suffice unless you're keeping 10 oscars and need the larger bioload of the eheim.

you will see this owner of the pro 3s filter is noisy. My FX5 is silent and its in the living room.

This has been done over and over again. Do a search in the forum for similar threads. Eheim's will last for ever, Fluval have yet to prove that with any of their filters. Fluval are cheaper than Eheims.

£ 40 pound diff the cheapest i found the fx5 £130

That's a smaller 2076 pro 3e operating at max output to maintain electroniclly flow while channeling it through a uv, other filters will not attempt to compensate by speeding up the motor to maintain a flow. Also note he's not comparing it to a fx5....

measured tests/ comparision show on the Pro 3 2080 (larger than the 2076) db compared to fx 5 db: Fluval is a lot noiser then the Eheim measuring out at 43db @ 1 meter vs the Eheims 19db.
They're both quiet but the eheim is sigificatly quieter

Ehiem holds a lot more media than the fx5. I have the fx5 as well. So it depends on your price range. How large is your tank? Will you be using the Ehiem Pro 3 up to its full efficiency? If not, then its not worth spending all that money. Even getting a smaller ehiem may work better for you if you tank it not to large.

The Fx5 to me is super quiet. I can't hear mine in the dead of night without putting my head up to it. I have heard others say the Fx5 is noisy or the Ehiem is quieter, The Fx5 is not noisy and if you want something quiter then the Fx5, you are using the Fx5 as a pillow than for it to bother you.

as said before this has been cover so many times is gettin stupid now, all it does it cause arguements! the facts have been stated i personally own an fx5 and the 2080 and i far prefere the eheim its worth every penny extra. try searching the forum im sure there are at least 30 other threads like this

is beter in many ways to the fx5

1 its hold more media
2 its cheaper to run
3 the fx5 is just a big sponge filter meaning if you dont clean it reg the sponges will be covered in sluge giving you more nitraes the longer you leave a pro3 the better it will be
4 the pro3 is much better looking the fx5 looks like a septic tank the pro3 is a work of art

Well, not totally, the FX5 does have + points (although myself id buy Eheim, always have and always will)

"CONCLUSION A matter of price
While the Eheim is the clear winner in the performance stakes the decision is not clear cut. The Eheim is the better biological performer and has a better % flowrate when full. Its a lot quieter and holds a lot more media and uses less power then the Fluval. So its a no brainer to the Eheim on most areas right? Well no ... The Fluval still does a excellent job its a bit easier to set up and it does a slightly better job at mechanical filtration and and here is the big kicker .... IT IS ABOUT HALF THE PRICE OF THE EHEIM So while the Eheim is clearly the better filter here I cannot honestly say its twice as good as the Fluval... issues of reliability and longevity not withstanding. If moneys not a issue its got to be the Eheim but the Fluval is a very good filter and its attractive price is going to win it a lot of fans. As for me personally I like the Eheim better but I also have a few FX5's for tanks where I can't justify the cost.
The only real winner here is us ...we have 2 great filters to choose from that both do a great job."
