Hi there,

will tiger lotus grow in low light? would love to have them as a feature in my tank

Regards Darren

I had a tiger lotus in 1.2WPG but with HO T5's which give out more light and i had a big tank (40g) so i bascally had 2WPG almost. What are your lighting levels?

Hi there,

Running 40 watts of fluros on a 130 liter tank (34 gallons)

Regards Darren

I am running 60W (3x30) in a 62usg and my tiger lotus is doing just fine

They grow in lower light. They just don't have as much color. They are still pretty though. That was the case with mine any way. :good:

there's one in my dads tank, which has less then 1WPG.

its growing, but slowly and the leaves are a bit wishy-washy :good:

This answers your question. these are in a 0.9WPG T5HO tank (30W/33USG.) I think that answers the colour statement too. There are different colours of the plant so maybe you think the low light minimised the bright colours when in fact you have a different colour OR you have Nympheae Rubra which is often called Tiger Lotus but isn't. Nympheae Rubra has a more plain leave normally burgandy-ish. Zenkeri has distinctive burgandy flecks on the back ground colour as you se below:

Nympheae Zenkeri Red

Nympheae Zenkeri Green

Low light doesn't slow their growth either, this is produced by 1 red zenkeri bulb!!!!

but to be fair, my dads is in a tank with headstanders, and is covered in algae. :p

Hi Andy,

that third one is sensational, do they have any special needs? root feeders, rizone etc
