My recently acquired dwarf gouramis are doing some strange behaviour things.... one the male is hovering up by the waterline and appears to be blowing bubbles and also collecting bits of java moss and spitting them into the silk plants.
First of all i was worried has i have been going through a nitrite spike, but have been keeping the stats has close to zero has i can...

But having just read up on their breeding habits it appears they might be in the mood for love

The female who has kept her distance from him is now swimming up to him and appears to be rubbing his belly has she passes??

Is this tell tell signs?

hmmm, definately sounds like somethings going down :hey: Best thing to do is sit back and see what happens, but does sound like potential breeding activity. :good:
James.

James.

Thanks James :good:

I will wait with baited breathe to see what happens... :D

If they were to breed, it would be a very valuable for the Gourami inventory and section as a whole, make sure to keep us tuned! :hyper:

James. :good:

Will do for sure :good:

The tank hasn't any floating plants has such,so i've nabbed a silk hanging plant from my main tank which i know the sparklers had spawned in one of these, and i've angled it across the surface of the tank for coverage and maybe possible bubblenest encouragement

Watch this space

I would love them to spawn, but has i'm still doing w/c to keep the nitrite down until my new filter comes i might end up destroying it... hmmm will have to wait and see what they get up too...

They're certainly taking interest it it

No bubblenest has yet,but the male still keep picking up bits and spitting them up in the surface plant... :hey:

The male was cute this morning,i fed them bloodworm using the turkey baster, and he was so comical has he came up and was eating it straight out of the end of the baster  he's very nosey!

Here's some pics i managed to get earlier..

Female

Nice pair :good:

Good to hear they are on bloodworm, will condition the female nicely!

James.

Thanks James :)

I dont mind if they dont breed just yet, i was hoping to change the sand to black sand and add the new filter if it ever gets here, and i know adding plenty of mature media from my big externals straight to the new external should do the trick, then i can let them get on with it if they're willing without too much distraction from me. :)

Definitely sounds like they will breed soon, no doubt about that. A bit of 'rumpy-pumpy' ( :shifty: ) and voilà, you will hopefully have some baby Dwarf Gouramis. :hey:   :)
