Bristlenose Plec and Albino Corys......

I just wanted something to add to the tank to clean the left over food and Algae.

Im pretty sure that the corys would eat the fry (Between 7mm and 1.5cm atm) but im not sure if my Plec Arastotle would?

if they fry stay at the bottom of the tank, close to the gravel then there is always a chance that they will be accidently eaten by the fish,
but it is extreemely unlikely that they will activeley hunt down any fry.

Nah they won't eat the fry :good: . The corys might eat sick/dying or dead fry which couldn't swim away, but they certainly wouldn't eat healthy fry- i've had corys in fry tanks with no problem. Both fish will eat unguarded fish eggs though.

I've had my leopard cory sit underneath my log waiting for fry to drop, the little.. gremlin! he knows they seek shelter under there!

Would it be ok just to move the Plec in there for a day? Its in the same tank just a seperate partion, would it cause it too much stress?

How large is the fry tank and how large is the pleco? You would probably be better off cleaning the fry tank yourself  .

Well the partition makes the fry Section 1ft x 1ft x 18" ish. I thought about cleaning it myself but it drops alot of algae into the water and im scared of hurting the fry. Whats the best way to clean the gravel aswell in a fry section?

The plec is only about 3cm-4cm :)

When i've had fry tanks in the past, i simply net all the fry out of the tank and put them in a plastic bowl, and then i just clean the fry tank thoroughly at my leisure, and then after i'm done cleaning the tank i just acclimatise the fry in their bowl back in their tank- i've never had any problems using this method :good: .
If the algae is coming about because of the nutrients the excess food is creating in the tank, then you really need to deal with this root cause of the problem- sand makes a much better substrate than gravel as it doesn't trap half as much waste in it like gravel does, so is a better substrate for fry tanks which can get very messy  .

Thanks for the advice, unfortunatley its not an option to have sand instead of gravel until i get some £ to set up my new tanks. I will have a go at netting the fry and giving there side a good clean tonight as its 25% water change time anyway.

Cheers for the help all :p

Hmmm - the fry are tougher than you think. I just use a sponge on the sides and a power vac (puts the water back into the tank after filtering the muck). I just move the vac quite vigorously and the fry always get out of the way. (Still worth watching carefully  )
