this is what i currently have but i want to add 2 or 3 keyhole cichlids, would it be ok?

its a 190ltr tank with an aquis 1050 external and a jbl cristalprofi i100 internal

4 denisonii barbs
5 celebe rainbows
2 cupid cichlids
2 cockatoo cichlids
2 electric blue rams
2 german rams
1 bristlenose
1 amano shrimp
1 bamboo shrimp

I would not add any more cichlids to that. Also having that many cichlids in in a 190 could end badly - the cupids especially, they are a lot bigger as adults than you might expect. Also they do much much better in groups of over 4 which calms them all down especially towards other species.

Also the Apistos do better in trios of 1 male 2 females.

And Rams are quite delicate - particularly the Electric blues can be a little problematic with water needs. All of the Rams like Golds, Blues, Dutch, Germans (they are all the same fish just different strains) need high temperatures and low Ph.

Personally for me I would rehome the Rams and get an other female Apisto and 2 more Cupids. Also long term a 190 liter tank might be a bit small for Denison Barbs - how long is the tank?

its 100cm wide by 40cm by 55 high, i am aware that i need a new tank and will get one this time next year.

i have tried to source cupids but nowhere has any and they all suggested putting a pair of keyholes in. i could put one pair of rams in another 65ltr tank with 7 cardinals, 2 cockatoos and 2 forktails rainbow

Keyholes and Cupids would not work the same way. Cupids are naturally a gregarious cichlid who do much better in groups, singletons are often reported as being mega aggressive and quite nasty with each other species where as a group of just Cupids often calms them all down.

If a bigger tank is an option then this could work out but just as a thought long term I would keep this 190 liter and get the new one and keep the rams in this 190 and up the temperature and try to get some almond leaves to lower the Ph a little and then keep fish with similar requirements, Rummynose Tetras and Sterbai Cories are ideal and a few plecs like King Tigers would also benefit from this environment.

But for now in the 190 I would not add any more cichlids as it could end badly. I would keep an eye on your current fish as if a few of the pairs starts breeding it could be mega trouble.

Also yeah the Denisons are going to need a bigger tank eventually as they do get to a decent size and are really active.

ok so how about taking the 2 cupids back to the shop and coming away with 4 keyholes?

would that be better?

No because Keyholes dont work in the same way as Cupids. Keyholes are better in a pairing situation.

I would say just rehoming one of the pairs would make the future more workable. Though I would just either rehome the rams or set up a tank that can meet their needs better.
