Will It Last?

Does his belly ever sink in as that's a sign of parasites.

The belly can look sunken in.
Carry on with the med, and keep us all upadated.
Good luck.

I dose metro at 40-50mg/gallon. 25mg/gallon often won't do. I sprinkle metro on thawed brine shrimp, & mix it in then feed. I read that live blackworms are a good food for dosing, luckily I haven't had to try it since I have a constant worm supply.

So I guess I could have used more Metro?

More good news

The small Discus has come out again and is schooling around with the other fish! He will go into his hiding place occasionally, but I think he is getting better!

All that I need to see next is him eating, and I will be SO happy!

Ok bless him but still early days.
Good luck though.
Would be happier if he eats.

Hey guys, I still haven't seen him eat yet...

By Monday, that will be the end up the 7 day anti-biotic treatment. Do you think it is time I force feed him some mysis shrimp w/medication?

I got an eye-dropper that should work, but I am not sure if this is the best thing to do...

No don't force feed him something not right.
When a fish won't eat there is something seriously wrong.
I would prepare for the worsty sorry, done all you can for the fish.

Good news!!

The small Discus has his color coming back. He is starting to swim about in the open again!

Today I finished my water change, and fed some brine shrimp with garlic juice and medication. He came very close to eating it. Swam up eagerly, and let it drift pass his face. Nothing great, but definitely and improvement. This is the 3rd day with the Sulfathiazole, and It seems to be working. 4 more days left!

Here are some pictures of the big discus that seems to be getting skinnier. Color is dark, had to turn up shutter speed, and guess I turned it up too high. I can tell his previous owner must not have given him the greatest when he was a juvenile.

Before:

Thicker, and less of the black coloration. Half the time it would show less then this, or none at all.

After:

Loads of black coloration now.

As you can see, going for the food. Just very skinny...

Looks like he's got very skinny to me :/

Yeah, I am starting to believe it is old age... He eats well, I have been giving him lots of beef heart, trying to fatten him up. He isn't my main concern at the moment though

The small Discus has ate!!!!

I fed him brine shrimp, and I saw him eat one! Last time I fed brine shrimp he came out and almost ate one. The only problem is, one of the Discus has never liked him, and he doesn't give him a chance to come out and eat... It has gotten worse since the other one past away, because he only has one Discus to pick on... I guess I will have to get a new one in quarantine to re make the group of 5 once the other Discus gets 100%!

Pleased to hear it, DiscusLova!

I hope he pulls through. Good luck! :good:

BTT

hi discuslova, hope your fish pulls through. Discus can get depressed easily and i am not sure if i have read your post right as i know you keep many discus but i wasn't sure if you just have one large and one small discus with the large one constantly picking on the little fella, if so it is quite possible that could be the cause of the problem. Sometimes they get unhappy and give up the will to live, they need pals to share out the bullying so 1 indivigual doesn't get more than his fair share. I usually worm my fish and up the water changes this can sometimes help with many other problems.
i wish you luck with your fish and hope he makes it
regards Angel

I agree with angelmouse the fish is probably stressed and need a break, I would seperate him.
I can't eat when I'm depressed.

It might be depression, but his color is good...

angelmouse,

I have a tank of 4 Discus at the moment. 2 full grown, 1 pretty much full grown, and the smaller one in question. The one they is pretty much full grown attacks the little one, the big guys don't bother him. I also do water changes everyday, it's a 30 percent.

Temperature is up too, I forgot to mention that, it's at 32 degrees.
