Don't worry, I don't think that at all.
Who knows, you may end up with a bigger tank before you know it....I know I did!

It's all over the tank. A sponge filter would be best though?

It's difficult to say as I don't know much about the sponge filters.
A lot of Plecs come from fast flowing waters whereas Bettas like the complete opposite.
My Plec tanks have a bit of overkill as I run powerheads as wlll as filters to create a good current. I often find them sitting in front of the powerhead enjoying the current!
