I'm trying to make my 10 gallon more ideal for my harlequin rasboras. I have several fairly mature anubias in the tank, a couple small java fern and a small piece of driftwood and a tiki head ornament. Added leaf litter to darken the white sand substrate and to add a bit of tannin to the tank.

Today I bought a golf ball amount of duckweed and added that in hopes of aiding a cure to my carpet algae problem in the tank (I clean it out when it gets excessive) as well as filtering the light to make the harley's more comfortable. I'm just running a marineland led which puts out mainly low white light (not full spectrum light). It's in a room that gets some filtered daylight through transluscent window shades.

I think maintaining the level of duckweed in the tank won't be too difficult in this small tank but wouldnt want the stuff in a large tank since it can be a nuisance to remove excess amounts since it grows so quickly. The current at the top of the tank is fairly heavy due to hob filter return.

How does this sound to you people experienced in floating plants...and especially duckweed?

I prefer water lettuce, I find duckweed too invasive. You can never seem to get rid of it.

Duck weed is invasive. I have kept in 10g and found it easier. I love lettuce and had difficulty with it in small tanks. Frog bit, red root floaters, or s.minima are my favorites for a 20 and below.

Also never heard of carpet algae? Any pictures? H.rasbora are too active for a 20in tank.

I love duckweed.
Was the top of my tank till I dropped the water level to try my hand at a mini riparium.

You should never have an issue as the rasboras will eat it! well mine do, they never give it a chance to grow and my angels love it too, it makes a nice treat for them so I grow it in my gourami tank and give them a scoop of it once in a while, it is easy to net out if you have too much, I believe it is an asset to a tank for water quality, appearance and food.

I found duck week easy to elliminate from the tank. On a daiyly basis remove as much as you can see. A fork works well. I a couple of weeks their won't be any left. It does grow quickly so if you do it daily you will eventually run out of it. It is also sometimes helpfull to raise the water level so it doesn't get tangled in plants near the surface.

Most white LEDs today are actually full spectrum or very close to it. Plants do well under most all white LEDs since LEDs do put out wide spectrum red, yellow, green and blue light. From my understanding marineland is a good product.
