Fish Gatherer
Offer to clean the tanks and mop the floor or something at lunch time. Put the fish down. Spill strong cleaner on the floor to mask the smell of cloves on the off chance that your teacher knows what eugenol is. Take out the body and say that it died of natural causes. It's just suffering. There's no point keeping him alive.
This could have been a twisted intestine. Food etc. builds up on one side because it can't get past the torsion meaning the fish can't poo and often won't eat, and gas builds up in the bubble that's trapped, eventually causing a blowout. It can be fixed in humans, dogs, cats etc but it requires surgery, totally impractical with a pet as small as a fish. Caught this late it would probably have the same outcome as the poor fish. Sorry to hear that he's going to die
