I have a tank with 4 zebra danios and I've been advised here to add 1-2 more for a true school. I was hoping to add some color to the tank and would love to try a few GloFish (I am about fully stocked with 4 zebra danios and two corys in 10 gallons, so I have to add carefully!). I thought with GloFish I could add color and complete my danio school at the same time. I would love to add a few platy as well, but do you think that would be overdoing it in 10 gallons (I'm willing to change water a few times a week, if needed)

Also, the danios sometimes look like they are swimming in one place. I thought this could be a symptom of illness, but it really looks like they are just playing in the current of the filter. (stay in one place for a few moments, then turn around a go back to that same place and start again. They will swim away for a minute if I tap the tank, but then start again). Is this shimmer or goofiness?

Thanks

I think you may be overstocked as it is.

Zebra Danios can grow up to 2.5" times that by four and thats 10" of fish alone.

I think your cory's grow to about 2" at a rough guess.

Check out the fish index on this site and research your fish to be certain.

I don't think you should ad anymore fish at this point. (my opinion that is)

Did you cycle your tank before getting the fish???

Do you have a test kit, what brand??

What are your test levels???

Might just hyjack your thread a sec.... gm fish?! This is only in the US, right? Where else can these be shipped? (legally...)

The GloFish are genetically modified, not dyed, so the fish are not subjected to any type of dying (that I am aware of from my web search on the topic). I don't know where they are available outside the US.

The shimmer question is no longer an issue I guess, the two that were doing the weird behavior are swimming around normally now. I think they were just staying in the current.

I've had the tank just over a month and we had the danios from the beginning, changing the water every couple days. Then the cories were added one at a time over two weeks. I've been taking the water to be tested at the local pet store, so I don't know what type of strips they use, but they have always said it was just fine.

Thanks for all your input. Now I'm not sure if I will add any more fish, although I really would like some color...

i've actually seen some in my LFS and i must say, i don't like them, they looked a bit odd, and also there were two that looked ill, that were floating on their side, i was also told by a friend of mine that they don't last long either...

I have glofish. The egg was implanted with an anemone gene to get the glo. Then from there out they were bred normally. No dyes and no other tampering. I checked. Other than the color they are just a normal zebra danio. They will even breed with them.
