Trying to plan my tank out still and my 2 Angels are still small.

I'm now thinking that I would like a schoal of smaller fish in my tank but know that neons etc are perhaps not a great idea.

My question is will Angels eat generally anything they can fit in their mouth?

I'm planning on feeding live food, of which I'm not sure but thinking about breeding guppies seperately for this etc so the parents wont get eaten. If they are fed live food regularly are they still likely to eat anything they can?

Generally would they cahse the vulnerable such as fry?

Off course they would eat 'em..... Basically, 95% of all fish will eat other smaller fish....

Angel fish eat Neon Tetras in the Wild, so i would suppose its no different in a tank! But, if you shot for Cardinal Tetra's ( alot bigger and prettier), they wouldnt eat them. But right now, your angels will be too small toe at even neons.

someone i work with kept a large angel with neons, rummynose and some other small tetra and they all got on fine, guess she was just lucky though on the basis of the other replys!

No, it is not impossible to keep them together.... If you intro the Adult neons about a week before the small angels, the angels will grow up and surpass the neons without a problem.... But just do not add neons of any size to a tank with adult angels who have been well established.

Right well at the mo my angels are still only about 2.5" but say when I move them across to the larger tank they reach 4" fairly soon and then gradually get full sized what are the smallest fish that you would reccommend I keep with them?

Someone mentioned cardinals but aren't they still small enough to fir in the angels mouth?

Also if I were to add a schoal of small fish once the tank is cycled and then a week or 2 later move my angels across how do you think that would fair up?

My suggestion would be to choose a species that is likely to be safe in the long term. That way you will not be continually worried that your fish might end up as angel dinner. Personally i would go for cardinals as suggested, because i think they are one of the most beautiful fish around. They would be relatively safe, but there will be some risk with any of the smaller torpedo shaped tetras. If you want to eliminate all risk, choose the larger higher bodied tetras.

BTW, you said you were planning on feeding the angels feeder fish. In my opinion this will actually increase the likelihood that they will view any other small fish as a potential snack.

Hehe yep they are still working hard to pay their rent lol!

It's good to know that I can get some tetra's so will have another read through my book (or look at piccies hehe) and then see what I can find locally.

I'm guessing by what has been suggested that size wise I'm looking for fish which are at least 2-3" prefereably with a high body?

Originally I wanted gouramis as centre piece fish but then as suggested when larger the angels will do that so now I'd like an impressive schoal of something... Something which wont get eaten
