I put this in the invertabrates forum but it got very little response so i thought i'd try in here

I was walking beside a lake today and I saw a little lizard (assuming it was a salamander) swimming around in the water. I know that the answer to this question is almost definitly going to be no but i'll ask anyway. If I caught one of the little guys and put him in my tropical tank would he die or kill my other fish. I probably wouldn't try it even if it would be ok because they seem so happy in the lake and I don't want to put them in a tiny little aquarium. But they are adorable so I might try to find them for sale online or something. Or if I start feeling really cruel i'll pluck one of the little guys out.

I think that it would probably
A) Drown because not all salamanders are fully aquatic
B ) Possibly bring diseases into your tank
C) Eat your fish

So basically, no, it wouldn't work

agreed it could likely be done but you'd have to know what it was first and do some research salamanders tend to be predatory and amphibians usualy eat live food only, so not only is it likely to kill your fish but I doubt ou could find soemthing it would eat

That's good to hear surprisingly now I can tell my gf that there wouldn't be much point in even catching one of the little guys (easier said than done btw) It was my idea in the first place but the more I think about it the more cruel it sounds.
