As some of you will know i have recently sold on my ornatum cichlids and other dithers etc and currently have a 60x18x24 tank containing 3 x bulldog plecos :/

i have a group of 8 F1 Leopoldi angelfish that have been living in with my rays for the last month or so and are doing great and eating anything offered. these will be adde to the new set up as soon as im happy that the other fish i buy to go in are fit and healthy. basically im usung the 5ft as a quarentine tank then adding the angeks last when i know all is well.

im going to get a big group of cardinal tetras tomorrow, about 50 i think to start off with and see how they look. ive also been looking at a L200 plec that i may just be tempted with :hey:

after this im stuck for what to add. i want a group of cats but want something a bit different. i love corys but there doesnt seem to be much about than the usual common species. maybe a small woodcat could be on the list too.....

ill be using this journal to show progress of tank decor/set up and new fish added. not just for my personal reference but hopefully for others to enjoy too. if it ends up being anything like some of my other journals then it could well be a very good read for some :)

lets hope it goes well with the new additions in the morning.

Wow 50 Cardinals sounds like something. I bet the blue flash as they all shoal past will be immense. What is the tank set up like? Planted?

the tank set up is work in progress until i get it how i want it. at the minute it has a few pieces of redmoor and a large piece of driftwood, a few rocks and ive added a few plants in the corners. i remember having these plants (echinodorus bleheri) in another tank and they seemed to be fine without adding any ferts etc.

i had a planted tank a while back and the costs of ferts got a bit too much so if i can get away without this time i will. probably gonna get a few java ferns, anubis etc and see how they get on. to be honest the few ive added in the corners have really bought the tank to life again after just having it with wood and rocks.

the tank itself is a 60x18x24 ND tank. it has 2 x 200w Rena smart heaters and is filtered by 2 x FX5's. the lighting is 2 x Arcadia daylight LED tubes.

the other thing about having plants is that ive no idea how well they will do under the LED lighting. i dont know of anyone that uses these light on a planted tank so if anyone reading this uses them then please leave a note about their performance with plants. i will only be trying low light plants anyway so fingers crossed they should be ok.

a link to Leopoldi angel info i found

the tank will look very impreesive mate, when i did my discus tank last year I had over 60 cards in there and it was great although i would add them first maybe give them a few weeks to fatten up then get the angels, you can get the cards quite cheap in bulk but they will be very small and angels of even small size just love to snack on them

All sounds good. I saw the pics of the set up when you had the Ornatums in there and it looked good then. With the way that Cardinals get mistreated, I imagine the tank will be heaven for them.

I bought a couple of cheap LED strip lights off ebay for a tenner over a year ago to run on my Shrimp tanks. They contained anubis, java ferns and different types of moss and all of them seemed to flourish without any ferts. I am now using them on my hillstream loach setup and the plants are still flourishing. You LEDs seem a lot better quality than the ones I bought so you will be fine with those kinds of plants. I cant imagine buying over 50 fish in one day, I would be so excited :hyper:

ive been and bought 50 small cardinals and an L200 green phantom pleco today.

currently acclimatising them.

im treating this tank as a quarentine tank as everything is new. ill keep the angels in with the rays until im happy the cardinals will be ok :good:

heres a pic of the L200 while still in the bag. truely stunning.

Looks nice, can't wait to see what 50 cardinals look like as well.

all the fish are now in the tank :)

the full effect of 50 cardinals will be much better when they have grown on a bit. still stunning though as they are but look very small compared to the tank :fun:

Some real progress Matt, love it. Add some Cryptocorynes to the list as well. All will be fine under your lighting as they are low light plants. No ferts would be needed either. :good:

Plec looks amazing as always.

takes a day or two till they colour up properly

it seems i have a hitch hiker on board with the cardinals. ive just noticed i have a single different tetra mixed in within the group.... not sure what it is though as its too small

also a group of 50 tetras should look great swimming about. mine may as well be in a 2ft tank for the amount of space they are using up  stupid fish have got 5ft to play with and are using less than half! all active and feeding well though so thats a good sign :good: might be a while before the angels can go in though as these are tiny tetras.

really tempted to get another L200 as well.
