It is commonly said that male dwarf gouramis will harass a single female, but what about the honey gourami? Are they more suitable to keep as a pair or does the male act mean to a single female?

I assume it would be the same, but I've never kept honeys. I hear they may be sligtly nicer.

I've never had a problem with a male/female pair of honeys. The male will chase the female but not to the point of stressing the female. The worst I've had is a female with a slightly nipped tail, which has healed up completely within a couple of days. I suppose it's possible my honeys were particularly peaceful, but I've had a few pairs over the years and none of the males harassed the females.

I have had problems with a trio with one female picking on the other. I had to take one female back.

Keep them as a pair if you want. Honeys are among the most peaceful gouramis. If the male builds a bubblenest, remove the female or she will get attacked.,
