you could always weigh the water in the bucket if you have got some scales. Weighing by difference is more accurate. i.e. fill the bucket up with water and weigh it then empty the bucket and weigh it again take away the second weight from the first weight and you now have the weight of water in the bucket and you can now calculate the volume.
