Why Does Almost Everyone On Here Instead Of Saying How Many Gallons Th

I feel really screwed up with the whole metric/imperial systems.

I was brought up at school to learn measurements and distances in cm, metres etc. However in cookery classes we'd measure things in pounds and ounzes!!! Arrgghh!! I can recognise a pint but I dont know what 100ml looks like without having to imagine and pint and work it out that way.

When talking tanks I work in inches and UK/US gallons, but will specify UK/US. I went to my LFS today and everything is in cm and litres. I know what 6 foot is because I'm 5 foot 5 so I can judge feet on that. I have no idea how many cm tall I am.

I just feel really mixed up. I still ask for a quarter of a pound of ham at the deli counter :) I'm only 25. There are 60 year olds that feel happier than me to ask for 113g of ham!!

Rant over :) It'd be nice to have one standard for everybody.

When you click on tropical fish forums chitchat jsut above in the pinned areais a converter table easy to use also. :)

I was wondering instead of everyone doing the simplier thing and post how many gallons their tank is they take the hard way and post how many liters it is and make the other members try and figure out how many gallons it is? I think its stupid because if you just post how many gallons it is instead of liters you could get a faster response with out having people to have to do maths to figure it out.

I always refer to tank sizes in gallons simply because even here in Australia, and we use metric, the fish medications etc. are always "x drops per gallon" never per litre etc. When I refer to my tanks to non-fish people I say "my 4 ft tank" or "my 3 ft tank" etc.

[/quote] My brains full so I have to forget something everytime I learn something new. I'm afraid I'll forget something REALLY important just to learn how many decimeters are in a meter.

I get that aswell....like when I learned how to make my own wine and it made me forget how to walk!

I'm sooo with you on this one! Even though Canada is supposedly using the metric system, I know height in feet and inches, speed in km/hour, weight in pounds, gas in litres but measure fishtanks by the gallon. :dunno: It's all so confusing. :S
