In most cases, the reason people are posting on here is because they have a problem. We are trying to help them solve that problem. If that means telling them that a common pleco doesn't belong in a 10 gallon tank, then that is what they need to know. If you have a small common pleco (3"), a small oscar (5") and 6 neons (6" total) in a 20 gallon tank, you probably don't have a problem NOW. But give it 2 or 3 months till the pleco is 6", the oscar is 8", you have a ton of waste from them and your neons are gone because the oscar ate them. THEN you have a problem. That is what we are trying to help people avoid.

Edited for spelling.

that's ok.... i been using forum for some time and its ok u know, but if u have good fish and good results and people tell u in a nasty way to put things here and dont do this, it makes me mad. i have had fish for 14 years with no probs and i do things my way..... i feel the fish and know what they want, no one tell me on comp that i do things the rong way. i have 9 tank of lots of sizes and do well.
First -- I've had fish for roughly ten years, so you could say we have the same experience. Which is why it baffles me for your complete disregard for common sense! The members of this forum give good advice, and while sometimes the wording may be a bit harsh, it is nevertheless the truth. Research and common outcomes are always going to outweigh the random against-the-odds success story.

Second --
u probably have nice fish.... u look nice and are honest on ur reply, bvut somepeople just come accross like they know more than anyone else......... and thats not rite

What the hell does me 'looking nice' have anything to do with it? That's a bit annoying.
Perhaps the people that come across like they know more are telling the truth. I did a bit of post digging and saw your comment about the 5 zebra danios in a ten gallon, and how it's dumb to insist they need 20g minimum. By the inch per gallon guideline this is true, but by 'knowing the fish' as you claim you, you realize that their hyperactivity requires a larger swimming area.

Basically, if you don't like the advice you're getting, stop asking for it.

Honestly, we are giving advice in the fish's best interest, not your ego.
If you've had a problem in your tank and post about it, we're going to be honest and tell you what's best for your FISH. They don't have a voice to tell you that you need to do a water change because the ammonia is too high, or that they're unhappy with their tankmates. But after lots of research, the knowledgable members on this forum are capable of giving good advice that is going to provide a better home for the fish.
amen to dat

I've been on this forum since I first started the hobby and I must say that most people here are very helpfull and informative. I don't know why you are complaining that people tell you what to do and what, but you gotta understand that this is a discussion forums and not all will have the same opinion on the same subjects. So If you ask a question about something be ready to take that info if it's helpfull and don't mind the other's who are just bashing you. Most people here are giving credible advice and I wouldn't have the knowledge that I have right now if it wasn't for the nice and friendly people here on this forum. If everything is working out great on your tank then good for you don't mind the people who is saying otherwise cause it's your own tank, nobody can make you do want you wouldn't want to do, but all we do here is to try our best to help a fellow hobbist and their fish believe it or not, not to boost our ego and show everyone how good we are.....

man it's really hard to belive he has never had a fish die on him.

i smell burning denim

People here have told me that my oscar and midas shouldn't be living together, but it's working out for now. No one is going nuts and telling me that I HAVE to separate them if things are working for the time being. Thanks to their advice, though, I know that I should watch out for trouble in the future. That's what's great about this forum; people give good advice. You don't have to take it as gospel.

This is a fish forum. People here are going to tell you what is best for your fish, whether it's what you want to hear or not. You don't have to take their advice the moment you hear it, but it's certainly wise to listen.

my girl is sitting here with me and she said the same thing so don't feel bad. :D

I'm far from being a rich man but I've got a lot of money that says that anyone who has had a tank for over 6 months has lost a fish, especially before the internet and places like this where you can get quick, reliable help for your problems.

I have to agree to be honest. If you have a set up which is working well and disease free, you are testing regularly, doing water changes, etc. then perhaps you have a point.

BTW - is that a photo of you fishncurrysauce?
You would agree, especially since your IP is identical to fishcurry's  You guys have a lot in common. :shifty: Or it's just coincidence....

The point of the forum is that people come here looking for help and it is given. It's pretty obvious.

I agree....there is no way anyone on this hobby have no fish death....I mean most of us stumble on this hobby and the only way that we correct ourselves is when our fish dies and we go find the answer for it..then bang...we realize that we did everything wrong....Well that's atleast in my case...lol.....
