Why Do People Always Think This Way?

So I'm trying to find new homes for my recently deceased aunts fish for my uncle so he doesn't have to worry about them. I took in 3 angelfish and 2 platys. So far almost everyone I've talked to doesn't have the proper setups for the angels, and no one seems interested in the plays. The last person I talked to about them I asked what her setup was like and all that to at least be sure they would go into proper sized tanks with reasonable tank mates if any. Heres what I got back from her "I have a 60 gallon with a few guppies, 2 silver tetras, 5 neon tetras, 3 goldfish and a 6 inch placo. I've had tropical fish most of my life so I know what I'm getting myself into!" I told her that most of what she has in the tank would become food for the angels eventually, and that the pair would probably stress out or something. I stayed away from the goldfish bit, and what kind f plec it might be..... Anyway she gets back saying how she has done it before and it worked out for her then, and the angels she has had "throughout the years have never eaten anything but their food".

What is it with people thinking cause they got lucky in the past it will continue on with different fish, and that they know everything because of it??

You could try the lfs to see if they would take them.
Or advertise in a local news paper.
Or try the buy, sell, and swap, part of the forum.

it happens and its never gonna stop, the only thing you can do is prevent it like i hope you have done.

I'm in the US, and they are posted in the buy sell swap section. Only reason I haven't tried taking them to the lfs is cause they will either take them for nothing or store credit which my uncle doesn't want to do yet. I've been asking anyone interested what kind of set up they have to be sure its appropriate, and if its not I respectfully decline them being sure to explain why in the process.

I have 2 angels since they were tiny babies and they are in with 8 cardinals and I still have 8 cardinals and 2 big angels - if they grow up with small fish they don't see them as food

I get it a lot at work . . .

Me: "this is considered a bad combination", "we wouldn't recommend this", "this fish will be aggressive towards your stock"
Them: "I've kept fish for years, I know what I'm doing", "well, I've never seen that happen", "I've never seen that fish get that big"

People assume because of a few isolated incidents they happen to have witnessed that they know everything about the animals they are dealing with.

Something else I hate is when you get an experienced fishkeeper who treats us lik crap. We've got to ensure the fish are going to a good home but we constantly get experienced fishkeepers who refuse to be open with us about their tanks, or they're really rude because they assume we're idiots, or something. I've ended up refusing to serve people who I think would actually take really good care of the fish because they were so rude or refused to answer my questions or insisted on picking a fight with me about store policy.

Arg.

I have 2 angels since they were tiny babies and they are in with 8 cardinals and I still have 8 cardinals and 2 big angels - if they grow up with small fish they don't see them as food
