I have a breeding pair of Sajicas, and they are always spawning, but the fry never survive as there are other cichlids and a senegal bichir in the tank. The last time was a bit different though, the fry got much bigger than they ever have in the past and lasted about 3 weeks. The female was doing a really good job of chasing off the other fish in the tank and after a while the others wouldn't even go near the fry.
then one day, the male sajica started chasing the female away from the babies, and they all ended up getting eaten (mainly by the greedy bichir!), and the femal was cowering in a corner. Why did he do this? They started nesting again the day after, so I wonder if it was because they were getting ready for a new batch, but it seems a bit odd!! :dunno:
