What do you like about fish keeping?

Looking at the fish, breeding the fish, the fish personalities etc.

There are millions of possibilites, What's yours?

I like watching the fish interect, it's more interesting than most TV shows.

I also love decorating things and having something to look after.

Well, for most people that would be an answer that you can sum up in one sentence. For me and for some others, it is a more complicated question. Fish are things that are more or less like any animal. They can comfort you when you feel lonely and be happy for you when you are happy. Fish don;t have faces you can see and distinguish the difference between a frown and a smile. They are whatever you want them to be. They don't talk back to you, they dont yell at you, and they are one thing that will always be there for you until their death. In my opinion, fish can be the most peaceful living things in the planet, and therefor bring about peace in you when you watch them. The sheer beauty and elegance of a fish can brighten the darkness of your day, or make a boring day more exciting (if you have zebra danio's :p ). It is also nice to be able to shape and mold something into how you want it, and see things flourish and blossom. It is even better when more fish are born in your tank, and you know that you made it happen. The gift of life is the most precious gift all, with the gift of death following it. Life is meaninless without death, and death is meaningless without life. Fish can be your best friend, or they can just be a wall decoration. Either way, they will always be close to my heart.

 Very well said Corrado! Very deep.

I feel dumb. :p

Only type of animal my stepmom isn't afraid of. I thought it'd be something neat, but my initial setup was a tota failure. Some research and hours each day on here resulted in a little knowledge gained and instilled in me a desire to expand on the hobby. Sadly, the expansion never occurred, so I'm pretty much just trying to be happy with what I have. *shrugs*

I got into keeping fish because I wanted a pet(s), but we travel a lot (just short 2-3 days). That left out dogs (my first choice) and cats (because my husband is allergic to them). So I started looking around and found that fish can go a few days without food or you can get a feeder for them. I like fish, but had never had them before so decided to give it a try. There is another reason I wanted a pet. I am studying to be an animal communicator and didn't have any animals around to work with. Now that I have them I think I like best watching their personalities. Each type of fish has its own character and each fish its own distinct personality. I have only just finished stocking my tank and am getting ready to start communicating with them. The first thing I did was pick names for them by asking them what they wanted and then listing some names. When they got excited that is the name I fave them, so I now have: Beezus and Ramona, Star and Luna, and Catman and Robin. You probably all think I'm off my rocker, but that's OK, my fish know I'm not!
