Whole Tank Destoyed.

When I was three I "fed" my brothers goldfish a whole tub of iron/vitamin tablets. The water went very red, and killed all the fish apart from one which grew massive!

I am so sorry to hear about that, I would be devastated. Definately look into some kind of locking system so your daughter can't "help" you unless you are present.

secure lids are good all round...my god daughter like to 'pat' the fish lol everyone ends up in the back corner waiting for her tinyness to leave lol

Oh no gutted for you, i've had a wipeout by my little Angel  emptying the tub of fish food in tank to give them enough whilst we were away an another time i came home from holiday to find my coldwater tank sprang a leak, nearly. empty, all the water on the floor(the carpet stank for ages) one fish survived in a little dell in the gravel with a tiny bit of water in, he was my miracle fish. Bit scared to go on holiday now
One day you will see the funny side to this, god bless your little one for trying to help.
Don't give up.
Angel

Thank you to Angel and everyone else for your kind words and encouragement. I am starting to come down a bit and to see the funny side of it (I am sure there is one).

At least the wife feels guilty enough to let me start again once the Summer spending is out of the way.

Thanks everyone - regards - Andy

awww how gutting,
no accounting for kids is there

How awful for you. Kids can be sooo helpful. I have to keep everything locked up including the food because my daughter thinks the fish are hungry and wants to feed them. She's also tried to do a water change and I had water all over the rug. Luckily I've had no losses. The worst thing was a blue cat but thats another story LOL. Invest in a good lock system and explain to her that you are in charge of the tank and if she wants to help she has to ask you first. You may have to remind her a few times till she really understands but she'll get it.

so sorry for you loss! kids can really be helpful sometimes can't they?

i've never looked at goldfish in the same way since two tanks i had in my class back in primary school, one on top of the other, apparently the top one sprang a leak and cracked and emptied water and fish into the tank below...and one of the goldfish below proceed to eat all the other goldfish. we came back to a class room that STANK, and one smug fat goldfish.

How awful. I really feel sorry for you. But as they say, it could have been worse. She could have found the toilet thing and put it in her mouth! or even the tub of ink, that would have been so scarey if she had swallowed it too! I know its not the point but i try to look at it as though it "could be worse". Hard to do though when you have to start over.....
I'm sure it will be a lovely new setup when you do start over.
I'm going to get a lock on my lid, as I have twin boys who are 15 months, but I can't imagine what they'd get up to when their older! :shout:

hope your deceased fish RIP
