Been reading the water change answer's on Father Fish and I wondered who watches who. Im not on it much now as things have settled down and I'm just cruising. But i did like the following.
Fish Shop Matt, Bentley Pascoe, kaveman Aquatics, Pond Guru, and Slinkyscapes like him as down to earth and his filters are Oase Biomasters same as myself does good info on them.

I don’t watch any kind of videos about anything . Just something about the small screen that doesn’t grab me . Being almost completely deaf doesn’t help either . I use closed captions and a lot of the time they don’t match up with the speaker if it’s a guy that talks too fast and most of them do . Slow it down Bub !

I don't watch fish videos on youtube, but will watch math and physic videos on Youtube (I wish they had those when I was younger). Mostly I use our big TV to watch them because I don't like the small screens either.

I'm an absolute sucker for underwater video from real fish habitats. I have no real interest in seeing videos of aquariums, and as soon as the guru types appear, I reach for a book to read.

I wish we had gatekeepers - experienced and respected aquarists who had gained their reputations with grounded work, and could act as an umbrella group for scientifically vetting videos. In effect, a video magazine scene.
As a hobby, we were better off with peer reviewing and editing in the print era. If you sent something like the father fish foolishness to any magazine, you'd have been be laughed at then politely rejected.

My work in print would be questioned by people I respected and I'd be asked to justify statements made, with supports. That is how it still should work, via video or writing.
The problem is money. People should be paid for their honest work, and that rarely happens on youtube. Viewers understandably want free content, and the aquarium world is a niche that only makes money for a few, not many of whom are the most constructive.

We had one but he passed away February 27 , 1969 at the age of 95 .

But people from that era inspired many not even born by then. There are Ichthyologists who respect the hobby, and hobbyists who have earned names on the speaker's circuit. A lot are very burned out by the trolling of the internet, but the knowledge base is intact and endlessly growing.

The list of men and women whose work and learning has equaled or surpassed favourite writers like Innes is very long. What they rarely outdo is his ability to communicate clealy and entertainingly.

Yes , I see where knowledgeable and learned individuals would voluntarily step away because of jerks on the internet . It’s a losing battle .
I’d like to know where the Gene Wolfsheimer’s and Rosario LaCorte’s , and many too numerous to recall , have vanished to . Some to their graves I know but don’t really smart aquarists still occupy their pulpits someplace ?
I hope I don’t come off like a heinie licker but we’re very fortunate to have Gary and TwoTank here to edify us properly . This is their pulpit and I’m glad to be a parishioner .
