Can whitespot be carried on plants?? I lost 14 fish yesterday and the only new thing introduced was 10 plants I got from lfs, I obviously want to be sure before I say anything to them.
Thankyou.

Yes but it dies if not attach to a fish in a few hours so i keep plants in bucket over night before i put them in the tank

i was wondring this aswell as i have a extreamily polluted tank atm im treating but its still getting worse i have whitespot, mouth rot, fin rot , 1 case of dropsey, and random deather that have no signs of ilness just dieing :( its a disaster and the only think i added was 1 small plant

so far i have lost 5 neons 2 mollies 2 dwarf gourmies 2 guppies

its concerning the 1 fish in ther that looks alright is a b plec only about2" long i dont dare try and move him to a new tank incase he takes the infections with him :( :( :(

To answer the original post, yes it can. It will be living in the water on the plants. Try washing your plants in salty water, or in a diluted iodine solution.

For the poster above, you have a real mess in there, which has small chance of survival, especially where dropsy is concerned. IMO, euthanas the fish that get dropsy, it's very contagious, and can easily transmit between tanks. Add 1 teaspoon of salt per 5 gallons of tank water, but spread the treatment over 3 days so as not to shock your fish (for example, a 9 gallon tank, add 3 teaspoons on day, then another 3 on day 2 and so on) Remove some water from the tank and dissolve the salt in it before putting it in the tank. When you do water changes, add the salt to the new water (ie, if you remove 2 gallons, add 2 teaspoons back)

This method is better then adding half a dozen meds to your tank, and will help remove infections through osmotic pressure.

Thanks for the answers, what I also wanted to know is can snails get whitespot or carry it and pass it on?? Also does it affect shrimp?
Sorry for all the questions.
