Whitespot

The only time i introduced white spot i used a product called by King British called white spot control, that contains malachite green. Other than the staining in the tank that took some getting rid of, i was cleared of white spot within the week with the loss of no fish.

I don't know if you have it available to you but every time I have had ich in my tank I have used the tablets of the brand Jungle. I know it is available in the US. It might be available to you. It usually gets rid of the ich within a couple of days and I rarely lose fish from ich anymore.

Hi Silverlady,

Been thinking of you and the fish - how's it going, any better yet?

Hi Kim, thanks for thinking of me , no I had to strip the tank as most of the fish died, couldn't kill the Ich at all,it just got worse and worse, with my lovely fish dieing one by one. I did every thing that was suggested to me but to no avail I'm afraid.
I striped the tank on Saturday, cleaned every thing out,new Gravel, and gave the plants a good wash.I will leave it empty for a while and add Ammonia so the Bio load is still there.
I did rescue my 3 Ammano Shrimps,as they didn't get any spots ,and the treatments didn't affect them at all,Tough little devils.
They are in Quarantine for a couple o f weeks just in case.

Im currently treating my second case of white spot grrrr, thought i caught it early, first noticed it on one of my mollies but now my betta has it really badly! Just done my water tests and found traces of nitrate and ammonia, argh! Funny how ive not changed a single thing, not due a water change for 2 more weeks and yet its all messed up! Sorry to hear of your illness. What are you planning for your new tank?? :*

Oh, that's such a shame that it came to that in the end - no surprise that you're gutted, I feel upset for you :(

Glad you at least managed to save the shrimp though.

Thanks Kim ,yes i am glad i saved the Shrimp just wondering when it will be safe to put them back in the tank.

timbert--Hope your White spot is getting better, i followed your advice but no good results for me i'm afraid ,hope it works for your fish.
xostrawberryox----I hope your fish are OK.

Thanks Silverlady, all the whitespot have gone off every fish bar one. The Interpet Anti-whitespot treatment seemed to do the trick. My female dwarf gourami has her white spot/lump to the left of her mouth still. I'm not sure whether this is just loose skin, whitespot or a worm. I noticed it a couple of days after I got her and she still has it 3 weeks later. It doesn't look grainy and at times it looks longer than others so I'm thinking it may be a parasite.

I noticed yesterday that I had put my carbon back in my filter too soon so the fish may not have reaped all the benefits of a full dose. With that in mind I started a second course and hopefully the fish will be ok. I'm keeping an eye on the gourami and if the lump changes shape I'll be getting a different medication.

It must be heartbreaking to lose all your fish like you have, I'm really sorry for your loss. However, you're going through the exciting stage of planning what stock to fill you tank with. Try to enjoy it and put the last few weeks down to experience, even though it was an awful one!

Thanks sussexgirl.
Have you tried Melafix on your Dwarf Gourami,i find it very good for lots of things in my tank(not white spot)
I must admit i visited the Lfs yesterday ,resisted temptation though as i have decided to leave the tank empty for two weeks, just to make sure it has totally died out.
The chap at the shop told me to wait 4 days then put in a Platy to test the water!!!!

Just a quick note, when I have had white spot had it 3-4 times, have never lost any fish luckly.

I started off adding British King white spot medication, this did not remove the white spot after doing this for a week or so.

I then went on to a forum and this is what I was told may remove the ich the ich.

At higher the tempertures Ich will reproduce more quickly but if you slowly raise the temp to 32Degrees, then the ich cannot survive in temps this high. I also carried on with the dosing with the medication and within about 1-2 weeks of the temp being 32degrees and adding the med all ich had disappeared from all the fish.

I have had white spot several times now and have done exactly as above with no fish loss.

hope this may help for future use.

Thanks dave,i did that but by then the fish were really in a bad state. Also i was using Protozin and left the lights off for the last treatment ,but nothing worked for me.

Thanks sussexgirl.

Hi Silverlady, was looking at Melafix yesterday at my LFS, maybe I should give it a go. It's so hard to treat something you just can't identify! I've been away so much over the last couple of months that it's been hard to continuously monitor my fish. I'm just going to do daily checks on the gourami for the next week and then go from there. I'm loathe to medicate the tank again with yet another medication if it really is just a peice of loose skin. I'll try and get a photo and see what Wilder here on the board thinks it could be.

Resist that temptation for a while longer! Are you going to fishless cycle this time? Seems a shame for that poor little platy!

Yes Fishless again, once you get the hang of what you are supposed to do in one ,i don't think any one would cycle with fish.
I felt i would be using the Platy as bait , just waiting till the big Shark came along and gobbled him up,or in this case until the White spot attacked.

Just an update on my Tank, i have had it empty for two weeks ,in which time it has been cleaned out refilled and planted. I did a Fish less cycle because i cleaned the filter in plain dechlorinated water and lost all the Bio load, at least i feel that all the White spot went as well, so not a bad thing. Also i got rid of all the pest Snails :hooray:
Well i decided to buy completely different species of fish to what was stocked in the tank originally.
So yesterday i bought 6 Harlequins
6 Rummy Nosed Tetras.
3 Sterbae Corys. (sp)
They all look active and healthy , the Corys never stop, one Harlequin is driving me up the wall ,he is larger then the others and keeps darting around all over the Tank.the smaller ones are Schooling with the Rummies who follow the Corys around when they are looking for food.
Any ideas for a feature fish would be welcomed.
