I just bought 3 dozen grass shrimp and put them in the tank. Some of them have what looks like a white wire coiled up in their bodies without apparent regard for anatomy (i.e. not isolated in the GI tract, seeming ly in the soft tissues, especially around the junction of the head and the tail.)

I caught one (quite a chore), and the worm was half hanging out (of what hole?) and wriggling.

None of the affected shrimp seem to be adversly affected.

Is this a potential pathogen for my fish?

what, not even any "cool pics!" remarks?

The more I look at them, the more I think the worms are in fact confined to the GI tract, as evidenced by some that extend along the "poopoo line" along the back. I should have realized that the stomach on these guys, which of course takes on the color of whatever they've just eaten, is within the thorax and is about where the majority of the worms are coiled up.

I think it's just a variety of tapeworm, but harmful to my fish?

I caught one and did a salt water bath for a long time and got no reaction from the worm or the shrimp.

Suggestions?

i dont have b/w i have f/w with the same shrimps
its ok.
as you know you can see what color food they ate because there body is clear.
the long white thing is a meaning they are going to shed there skin off soon

i think it is a parasite called anchor worm, fish can catch it.

My Amano shrimp dont have anything like that inside them, id go with an internal worm/parasite.

look i dont think its danger
because my glass shrimp had it and after a few days a saw a big piece of his sking on the gravel.
people in other forums said it too.

my shrimp have shed loads of times i have seen it happening before during and after and i am 100% sure i have never seen that inside it at any point. if it is then i have learnt something new but i myself have never seen such a thing in the shrimp.
