Hi everyone,

my fella's having a problem with white spot in his cory's and wants to know how to treat it. thanks

has he got any whitespot medication ? if not tell him to get one as quick as he can then dose according to instructions he can also try raising the water temp to about 90 f /32 c for a few hours about every 3 / 5 days as long as the fish are ok with the higher temp

Corys are not prone to whitespot so can you describe the spots please.

One of my angels was suffering from white spot and i thought i had it cured but then my corys started scratching, i darent add much white spot meds to the water as even at a half dose my corys started turning pale and became very lifeless.

however after a water change this aftrernoon the colour came straight back and they are racing around the tank again,

I`ve begun adding quater doses and plan to again on saturday (it say`s to dose the tank every 48 hrs on the bottle)

As the only whitespot treatment i could find was baces on malachite green. i was wondering if there are any other meds sutable for corys

the only symptom that alerted me to the corys contracting white spot from the angels was them flicking and rubbing on the sand and decor, i can`t actualy see the spots as they are normaly covering them selves in sand all day

You will have to read the instructions on the whitespot med to make sure you can fully dose with scaless fish.
Cory will scratch and rub but you will not see any signs of spots as they are not prone to it.

Scroll down and take a look.

so is the scratching/rubbing just normal cory behaviour? as they will swim quite normally then sudenly flip onto their side and rub it on the sand

it says to add half as much with scaleless fish but the corys still didn`t like it, i know they don`t like salt i was wondering what else i could add

Do you have a spare tank you could add them too, corys can tolerate small doses of salt, you have increased aeration in the tank as the med and high temp will reduce 02 in the water, plus corys won't like it at the bottom of the tank if not.

plenty of airation, as the tank is understocked at the moment (as all the fish are only young) it also has a 4 ft bubble curtain running the full length of the tank, the filter is angled up to disturb the surface aswell as having lots of plants.

alas i don`t have a second tank, i`ve only just finished cycleing this (my first) tank

i havent seen the corys flick or scratch for a day or two now so i`m hoping i`ve cured it, i just want to know for future refrence whats the best way to treat for white spot with corys in the tank

Just check the instructions on the med lable and follow them carefully.
Get a qurantine tank that the best way to go.

if they're still bad this weekend then when I put Oscar and Polly in they're new tank you can put the cory's into the middle one as a quarantine while you treat the rest of the tank.

Probably have to scrap that tank and cycle it over again as I wouldn't wanna risk putting fishes in if the cory's are carying white spot so it aint ideal

But if needs must then I don't mind (p.s. that does mean you cleaning out, cycling and setting up the tank again after tho ;) )
