30th November i bought 2 ottos and 2 baby bristlenoses. After adding them to the tank i added Pimafix. The fish seemed healthy and no signs of illness or stress etc in the shop.

A few days later my 2 albino corys died, i thought okay the curse of the Albino again, because i cant seem to keep them (im giving up).

Then in the week following this purchase, a couple of my neon tetras died. Soon followed by the 2 ottos i bought.

Now in the past couple of days, iv lost 3 of my black sail cory cats and i noticed my cherry barbs had white spots on them also. Now my remaining neon tetras have, and also seems my Clown pleco has :(

It doesnt look like my Bolivian ram has it, but iv just seem him flicking, which my cherry barbs are doing. And my baby bristlenoses dont seem to have it either.

Yesterday i googled this and i found out the most common way of it occuring is adding new fish to the tank, so i assumed it was my ottos. Also on another website a few simple suggestions (besides meds) were to increase temp to 28oC, at the moment its upto 26oC (was previously around 24oC), and to reduce the light, so iv kept that off most the time. Also iv been adding Pimafix to the tank for the past four days. I last cleaned my tank wednesday, and also the filter (i have a tetratec ex600).

What is the best way to get rid of whitespot (ie meds - whats the best one, im from the UK so name ones that are applicable if possible).

Thanks for any help.

little-fizz gave me the routine for treating whitespot with salt and heat....and so far it's worked a treat for me!!!

Only had whitespot once and I use anti whitespot by interpet.
You have to raise temp to 30 and increase aeration as the high temp and med reduce 02 in the water.
Also you must remove the black carbon out of the filter if you use it.

Can I ask why you used the pimafix.

Only thing i had and thought better than nothing? Plus i saw somewhere that someone used it.

I cant really add salt though can i....i have cory cats and plecos?!

I will get that interpet stuff tomorow, should be able to get it. Is there anything else that could be used in addition to increase chances of curing.

I dont have carbon in my filter, i never put it in when i got this filter, iv never used carbon for a while.

How bad is whitespot? Is it easy to cure? I dont want all the fish that have it to die (thatl be almost all considering what iv lost so far) ....especially not my clown pleco hes my baby!

I have a bubble curtain on a timer with my light from 11am to 8pm. The bubble curtain is on low because when on high i can hear a knocking noise in my tank, yet my air pump isnt rattling. And my spray bar is about 2inches below the water surface facing up so its causing surface agitation.

Thats not good.

Just turned my heater up two notches, raised to 27oC already.

Well i only noticed my pleco had whitespot yesterday, but cherry barbs the day before that.

The ottos and black sail corys didnt seem to have whitespot.

Heres a picture i took of my pleco, best i could get:

Bless him hee's lovely.
Corys are not prone to whitespot same as some other fish.

Okay. Well somethings going crazy in my tank, since i added them ottos i think.

I have good filtration and i clean the tank once a week, although the gravel still gets messy after a week under the bits of bogwood, and its alot more clean than previously before i had this external filter. When i cleaned the filter for the first time after having it 4 weeks (? the filter was scruffy at the bottom, so i guess it does its job extremely well).

Im not being nasty but im not really too fussed about my cherry barbs and neon tetras, i dont want them to die of course but if they do i wont be too sad, but i really want my clown pleco to survive, and my ram, otherwise il probably cry. My clown pleco is my favorite and oldest (had him about 8 months).

If you have scaless fish read the instructions on the meds carefully as sometimes you have to half dose with scaless fish.
With having the corys I would only half dose.
Plenty of aeration as with the med and high temp it's going to be tough for bottom dwellers.

Where fish don't have scales on there bodies.
People think clown laoches are scaless fish but they do have scales there that small you can't see them, the only area clown loaches are scaless in on the head region.

Do i have any scaless fish?

* 2 Peppered Cory's
* 1 Black Sail Cory's
* 1 Clown Pleco
* 1 Bolivian ram's
* 2 Neon Tetra's
* 2 Otto's
* 6 Cherry Barbs
* 2 Baby Bristlenose Pleco's

Yes the plecs, corys and neon tetras are funny with parasite meds so I would only have dose to see how they get along.
Good luck.

Oh and one last thing, how bad would you say my Clown pleco is in that picture? Or cant you really say.

Just curious.

*fingers crossed*
