Nitrite - a similar reading to the one I posted a pic of, does not "quite" match anything on the card, could be 0.5, could be higher?
Possibly because it's off the chart! Just an educated guess but I'd say your filter is not nearly mature enough to handle six fish and adding more or larger fish will only make things worse. If you want any chance of keeping all six then I would of thought daily small (10%) water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrite at a level the fish can survive. Also go to your lfs and beg for some mature filter media!
Marcos,
I have had mature substrate in the tank since it was put together, a week before any fish, also it;s 125litre (33 gal) tank?
i am SURE my reading is 0.5, as that's the closest match on the card, and diluting it with 50% water that has 0 nitrite gives a 0.25 result. surely that proves it?
i was recommended the danios, as they are very small, and minumum group of 6, from 2 LFS and 2 2005/2006 books that I purchased.
Are 6 very small danios too much for a 125l tank then? (i have heard 1 inch of fish per 5 gallons to cycle - so I am spot on? )that's all that is in there, and I have not mentioned any more fish?
also as an update, the other Zebra danio that had a mark on it's back - the mark has GONE, in 48 hours!!! I watched him for ages, and there is nothing there now - i'll continue the meds for the whole 7 days.
How do I put my carbon filter back after the 7 day treatment? anything special to do to it first?
thanks
Dave
