Hi all,

Recently i have started to notice a white powdery looking slime forming on any plastic or rubber kit in two of my tanks,
both tanks are well established and have been up and running for a few years now.
I have never noticed this before, any ideas what it could be?

I had this just after christmas...loads of it growing on only the black plastics in my tank.
I put it down to a certain bacteria growing only when their particular requirements are prefect, my tank is also a couple of years old. It didn't do any harm to my tank and has all but gone since my Ott's went in.

Terry.

Thanks, thats reassuring.
Unfortunately both tanks are well stocked at the moment so I can't really add any Otto's
Have you seen them actually eating the slime or was it just due to a change in water chemistry from them being added?
In my tanks its very easy to clean the slime off but it is soon back within a few days and looks nasty.
Oh and I have snails, shrimp and some bristlenose pleco's but none seem to be interested in it.
Can you think of anything else i could try?
or do you think it's just something that may die off over time?
