Hiya, Today i noticed Shimmer has a sort of pale white dot on his head, its not big nor small, but i'm starting to worry about it, theres no chance of a pic as he can't keep his body still nevermind his head lol!
It doesnt appear to be raised, cotton like or anything just blends in with him apart from its a pale white, hes acting normal apart from that.
Water stats all fine and he's still feeding.
Any ideas?
Thankyou, Jas.XX

I hope so!
To be honest he has got alot of regrowth and his ventral fins turned white at the end then went a lovely bright green/blue colour!
His tail is doing the same but hasnt got colour yet :)
Thanks for the reply lilacammy.

You've posted so many times of minor problems with your betta fish. Based on the way you take care of it, the probability of anything bad happening to the betta fish is 0.0000000001%.

It is better to check than not. Different people different circumstances. It may well be an illness for all we know, but hopefully being a young betta it is the colouration changing and developing. If it changes drastically in anyway jasminekiddell, try to get a picture and get straight to the emergency.

You know what to look for, lumps, bumps, textures, also keep an eye on his behaviour and feeding. Don't panic too much (or at all!) it is just something to keep an eye on and you (and me) will learn from the experience.

Another thing, not sure with bettas. But some other types of fish change colour slightly (whole body parts of them) when excited, anxious, scared or all the other number of feelings inbetween. Females and males can develop mating and stress strips, maybe it is something to do with mood.

p.s Cloud -do we get to see your betta - I am curious and love seeing everyones!! What colour is he?

Iv'e had a goldfish turn from bright orange to pure white!
I was quite shocked but his behaviour didnt change lol.

Yeah my friend's did that and went quite transculent (this was before I got into fishkeeping years ago), the fish is still going strong today!

Just wondering....sorry if i'm hijacking your topic...but what are stress stripes?

if it is one spot and not growing any check and see if it is not one of his scales comming off. it happens from time to time, like when our hands and feet peel for no real reason...scales fall off, get damaged and come off. not to worry tho if hes acting normally, swimming eating etc.
hope that helps

Stress stripes are what happens to mainly female bettas although males lose colour and can display them when they are stressed

They loose their colour and tend to take a light brown hue with dark horizontal bars on their bodies

After the fish has calmed down they regain their colour and go about life as normal :good:

The dot doesnt appear to affect him, but today he is taking more rests than usual, the dot is on the left side of his head, oddly his left half of his head is a little bigger than the right side :/.
