Hello!

I just had bought this a few days ago... Tetra Water Wonders 1.5 Gallon Aquarium Kit.

I have had goldfish before but never a betta. So I thought I would give it a shot.... I cycled the tank got it all ready to go and I introduced my Betta to the water in a bag within in the tank for a while then added some water from the tank. He looked stoked to get at the tank.

Then I released him and I noticed that he was just going with the current of the whisper filter that came in that kit with the link above. He just kept on fighting the current later flapping his fins fast! He seemed to chill out after a while and stayed on one side of the tank and would stroll but would go back to the other side. So a day later I pulled the filter out as I noticed his color was dull and he let the current just take him for a spin...he is little yet.

He seems to be much better but should I be thinking of putting another filter in or should I wait till he gets bigger then try introducing the filter back in again? Possibly the pump is to strong for the filter device?

He seems to be rolling along just fine...he pretty much doesnt leave the top of the tank which I read that is normal for Betta fish.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated on the matter of filter preference with this 1.5 gallon tank.

You could make a small box filter or sponge filter (vids on you tube for home made versions). If you use a box filter you could reuse your sponge to keep the bacteria.

on amazon they have small filters for about 7 quid with a spray bar, transfer your media, set the bar to the surface, and most of the tank should be slow moving water, problem solved? :good: sponge filter also good as prev poster said

Thank you very much for all the help! I had insterted a new heater under the gravel. When I had done so the water was pretty dirty. I reinserted the rough riding filter and it seems he is just staying away from that area. Though he is doing these strange aquabatics...like flips/spiral like actions. Is this him playing or being frazzled by this filter? I am going to work out the filter issue tommarow.

Also I have circulated my tank before I let him dive in, but i have tested my PH levels and it seems to be around 175 should I lower it more so for the best enviroment for my Betta?

I have kept my tank at 76 F, he seems to be strolling around more so than he was.

How weird, I have the same exact tank and my newly pre-matured betta was doing great with it. The flow didn't even bothered nor even pushed him a little.
Sometimes when you have a small tank like that the best thing to do to slow down the water filtering is to put a plant right below where the water drop... It will help drastically with the current pushing.

Great! I will give this a shot first and then if it still is a problem I will make my own homemade rig via YouTube instructional. I wonder if my Betta was doing that as he was in the dumps coming from a Petco. Or perhaps the Ph level is just too high for his liking and he decided to shut down? Perhaps he was just playing? Well my PH could be better. I am going to do a water change tomorrow and hopefully over time to get that Ph down slowly. I definitely am going to pick up a plant tomorrow that can take care of that flow issue.

*Update*

I bought a plant today. I had cleaned the tank and removed 45% of the water in the tank. I inserted the new plant into my tank and had fixed my heater so its in snug nice and tight under the rocks. I had then rearranged the fake plants which will be replaced over time with real plants. I filled the tank with purified water which I tested and was around 7.0 PH. I checked my PH and it was the same level as before I put in the purified water. Which maybe isn’t so strange?

He went to the surface and went to the filter and let himself fling to the current and look like he was going to go for the goal and jump in it. Soon left the merry go round that has tamed down considerably (I think). Now he seems to be ok but still floating toward the filter? I am starting to believe it doesn’t have to do with a current as I see the new plant not flying around the filter as much as my Betta.

I think he is fine, He has been busy since more so than usual.Though maybe you guys can see a problem I am unaware of from this video.

Apologies for the not so great video quality as my phone isnt the best for the job. I am not the best camera man either. Figured some music would help that out a bit. haha

I may be asking simple questions that have probably been asked before. I appreciate all the help.

Thank you!
