Could anyone advise me what I should look for when choosing a pressurised CO2 kit?

Some of the kits are not too specific about the diffusers they come with, simply describing them as 'glass' or 'ceramic' with no other details. What type of diffuser would you recommend for a 42gal tank?

What differences are there between different makes of valves/regulators? Will they all take standard bottles if I chose not to buy their 'own brand' refills in the future? What about fire extinguisher bottles etc?

The only one I have seen (so far) to have a solenoid is the D&D kit. How important is that?

Budget is a consideration (obviously!) but I would like to buy good quality kit that will last and be suitable for my needs as I get more experienced in this hobby.

Thanks for your help.

Lucy.

I am having the same problem!

The solenoid is fairly important (turns co2 off at night)!

co2 is only needed when lights are on as u probably already know!

The diffusers should all be fine, just put it directly under the filter intake and will be great.

For me it was either JBL or D&D and personally i think D&D will be the best...

Refills every month or soo but there not too expensive!

I use a Dennerle regulator myself. It has a built in needle valve and fits a standard CO2 gas bottle.
I also spotted a link on the UKAPS to Flubenol (Flubenol). They have a valve for £35 with 10% off for UKAPS members, but you will need a needle valve for that one.
I spent a bit of money on my solenoid and got the Aqua Medic M-Ventil pulse. It's a latching solenoid that stays quite cool but it was about £70.
